British Columbia – Big Rivers and Pacific Giants

I have been fortunate enough to fish in British Columbia on several occasions. Near the town of Terrace, I spent many days on the Skeena River, a magnificent river system influenced by the upstream migration of all species of Pacific salmon.

This is hard, uncompromising fishing, the kind that belongs to big rivers and powerful migratory fish. Everything here is on a larger scale, and the approach reflects that: two-handed rods, strong setups, and equipment designed to handle extreme situations.

The fish that run up the Skeena have an immense amount of space at their disposal. They can run endlessly, leap repeatedly, and completely overpower you if you are not ready to react—especially when they suddenly turn and charge straight back toward you. If you hesitate while recovering line, the fight can be over in seconds.

Fishing the Skeena means accepting that you are not in control. You are constantly tested, mentally and physically, by fish that use current, distance, and raw power to their advantage. Every hook-up has the potential to become something extraordinary.

In the waters of the Skeena, you can truly live the dream of battling the fish of a lifetime, surrounded by landscapes that are as vast as they are unforgettable. A place where fly fishing reaches its most primal and authentic expression.
